You might have already travelled length and breadth of INDIA, also referred to as “Land of Unity in Diversity” but you may think an important part of India still remains as an ignored region on the map would be Northeast India which has been looked upon as an obscure land, isolated culturally, regionally and geographically even though connectivity via road or other means has been well developed.

Honestly, North-East India is less known but is home to a myriad of tribal groups, cultures, religions, ethnicities, creeds and landscapes. The collection of eight states in the North-East Part of India is fondly called a “Mini-India”. The eight states are well recognized for its biodiversity as well as for its unique culture. So, the states are also well portrayed as another paradise on earth. Ineffable! We’re literally lost for words to describe the sights of the wonder land.

Many incredible and breathtaking sites are the mirrors of the entire NE States. Here, I’ve brought to you a unique fact of Nagaland (one of the NE states) which is less known to the most of the people of India. Have you ever imagined any place in India where people from one country can move independently to another country without taking permission for travelling? Of Course, India has a lot of astonishing facts- there is one such village in India where the locals can move freely to another country without a visa.

Longwa Village Chief rules the dual Citizenship of India and Myanmar

Nagaland is one of the tourist prime destinations in NE India, bordering Myanmar. The mountainous state having 11 districts is home to diverse indigenous tribes. The land of the Nagas (tribes reside in Nagaland) is full of surprises and jaw-dropping sites that will take your breath away and leave you yearning forever.

Longwa village is just at a distance of 42 kms from Mon town at the Myanmarese border. It has a lot of attractive sights and traditional large houses made of wood with thatched roof.

The most amazing fact you must know is the inhabitants of Longwa village can move freely in India and Myanmar because they enjoy dual citizenship of both the countries. There is a boundary between India and Myanmar that passes through the village chief’s house which separates into two- one half of Chief’s house in India and another half of his house in Myanmar. A total of four rivers flow through the interesting village: two in India and another two in Myanmar.

It is not the end, one more enthralling fact of the village is- the king/chief (or Angh- the hereditary chief) of the village has 60 wives and he has been ruling over more than 70 villages extended up to Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh.

Despite the fact that the village lies in two countries, the entire village is ruled by the same chief. So, Visa is not required at all by the villagers and they can move around freely to Myanmar. Noticeably, village chief’s son has joined Myanmar Army. Hence, some of the locals in Longwa have their kitchen in Myanmar but their bedroom in India. The locals from both sides of the boundary work hand in hand in the same field of the chief. So, it has proved Boundaries and Citizenships are the human inventions. It is the live example of a true world without any boundaries.
